Simple, Hand-Operated Pumps are Changing Lives

For most who will ever read this, “How will I get clean water today?” is a question that will never have to be asked.

While there surely have been issues with water supplies in developed countries, like the Flint, MI water crisis, most of us wash our clothes, dishes, bathe, and drink from reliably clean water supplies every day - by simply turning on a tap.

Even during times of crisis or natural disaster, it typically isn’t long before bottled water is brought in for emergency use.

Now, imagine a life where that isn’t the case. Imagine having to walk for miles each day to retrieve even a small volume of somewhat clean water which typically needs to be filtered and/or boiled before becoming safe to use.

These circumstances are the hard reality for millions of people living in rural Africa and other areas without modernized utilities like running water. 1 in 9 people faces this issue around the world.

Lack of access to clean water poses a serious health risk to these communities and interferes with children being able to receive a quality education.

The work involved in gathering and filtering this water is incredibly taxing, and even still, harmful bacteria can be found in these supplies.

Thankfully, there are incredible organizations like The Water Project and Water Wells for Africa working to change that - one village at a time.

These non-profits are working to drill wells and install simple, maintenance-free pumps to allow rural African villages access to a reliable water supply.

While many of the popular well pumps today are powered by fuel, electricity, or even compressed air, the simplest of hand-operated pumps are being used in these applications. No outside source of power is required for operation, and villages won’t face downtime because they require maintenance on their pumping mechanism.

In addition to their simple operation, these pumps are also much more cost-effective than their gas or electric alternatives. This is huge for charitable organizations that are working to drill as many wells as possible!

The work that these organizations are doing is truly incredible. Countless lives have been saved and affected in a very positive way. Consider donating time or money if you can to help out in the mission of bringing clean water to people who are in desperate need of it.

Drip Pan Fluid EvacuatorIn society’s constant effort to improve and advance technology, we often forget that the simple tool can often be the best. Our minds are geared towards sophistication, and the market is littered with products that have a built-in utility that sounds a lot more useful than it actually is.

Our newest product at Killarney Metals is the drip pan fluid evacuator. Simple in nature, this hand-operated pump will allow you to easily move water, chemicals, oil, or other fluids from your spill containment unit into their proper receptacle.

While we do also offer the electric Water Transfer Pump, you’ll find that the simple hand-operated pump is extremely cost-effective and versatile for transferring fluids. These hand-pumps can be used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications, and are great to have on-hand to help in preventing slipping accidents.
